Gálos Ádám Drum School

Drum lessons for kids and adults, from beginner to advanced!

Drum lesson at the Gálos Ádám Drum School

Our story in brief

After many years of one-on-one teaching, I founded my own drum school in 2020 to pass on the experience I had gathered throughout my career to anyone eager to play the drums. My core goal was to create a school where students gain modern, practical, music-centred skills with the most up-to-date tools available - and where lessons feel light, immersive and free of everyday pressures.

When I was 7, my older brother took me by the hand and signed me up for drum lessons at the music school in Sopron. It must have been around then that it was settled once and for all: music would be more than just a hobby for me. During primary and secondary school, alongside the music school, I built a solid foundation at the Hoffer Zenesuli, and I also had the chance to take private lessons from Borlai Gergő.

After graduating from high school, I studied at the Kőbányai Zenei Stúdió until 2010, where I earned an advanced professional music qualification and learned from such greats of the Hungarian music scene as Póka Egon, Babos Gyula, Tóth János Rudolf, Sramkó János, Solti János and many more...

Over the course of my musical career so far, I have played in productions including Kistehén, Padödö, Biorobot, Hiperkarma, Freddie...

The wider audience knows me as the drummer and one of the founding members of Intim Torna Illegál, formed in 2010.

In 2019 I received the Petőfi Díj in the "Percussionist of the Year" category.

From 2024 you can catch me on stage behind Puskás Peti at The Biebers concerts!

I am proud to teach alongside outstanding colleagues, and that together we have built the largest private drum school in Budapest.

Tempo, dynamics, coordination, limb independence, style exercises, technical exercises, rhythm exercises, sight-reading... These are the kinds of topics we work on in my lessons.

I look forward to seeing you — let's take your playing to the next level!

I have been drumming since I was 16, but music filled my life even as a young schoolkid. I attended a primary school with a special music programme, sang in choirs and played the piano for six years.

After the rehearsal-room practice sessions and band experiments of my teenage years, it was at the Kőbányai Zenei Stúdió that I truly began to immerse myself in drumming. I had the privilege of learning from Jávori Vili, Solti János, Sramkó János and Németh Gábor.

My career in popular music took off during my years at Kőbánya. Alongside more traditional rock, funk and other groove-based projects, I also spent a few rewarding years in the experimental / free jazz scene. In that period I discovered a great many new sounds and textures on the drum kit, which I built into my playing and still use to this day. My favourite territory is jazz- and funk-rooted hip-hop drumming.

In my drum lessons, alongside the fundamental technical and style exercises, we place emphasis on exploring orchestration within the drum kit, developing balance between the limbs across different dynamics, and discovering the expressive power of minimalist drumming.

My main bands are the Qualitons and Amoeba — both have won the Fonogram Award. With the Qualitons, we were the first Hungarian band to perform in the studio of Seattle's KEXP radio.

I must have been around 13 when I realised I wanted to play the drums — thanks to a childhood friend who played guitar, and to the MTV of that era, which aired a lot of great music. :)

During my high-school years I started learning the drums at the Vikár Sándor Zeneiskola in Nyíregyháza, then continued at the Rocksuli in Debrecen. My love for the instrument just kept growing, so I applied to the Kőbányai Zenei Stúdió and was accepted. There I had the chance to learn from outstanding musicians such as Sramkó János, Németh Gábor, Solti János, Babos Gyula and Fekete-Kovács Kornél. Later I became a private student of Szanyi János, to whom I also owe a great deal.

I love the funk and soul music of the '60s and '70s, as well as hip-hop and R&B. I believe that sometimes less is more.

A few great bands you can see me playing in: Flanger Kids, Noira, Perrin, Szabó Balázs Bandája, and the band of Szesztay Dávid.

I started learning the drums in the early years of primary school, then continued in the classical percussion department of the Egressy Béni music school. That is where I picked up all the fundamentals of snare drumming and reading music. I also studied melodic instruments, such as the marimba and the piano.

As a rebellious teenager, I took a break from formal drum studies during my high-school years — but that is when my first band was formed, and thanks to it I decided I wanted to spend most of my life on stage.

So after graduating from high school, I too headed for the Kőbányai Zenei Stúdió and learned from the same great names as my colleagues.

As a listener, I love alternative rock, pop and electronic music; as a drummer, I feel truly at home anywhere from live interpretations of drum and bass, through funk and hip-hop, all the way to jazz.

I find it important that we start playing along to real songs early on and reach the level where you can even make music together with others — because in my view, that is where the greatest joy lies. 🙂

My current bands are egy5egy, Szaffi and Temesi Blanka

Music grew very close to my heart when I was still a small child. Among my earliest memories is receiving a Tankcsapda compilation CD for my red CD player, which I listened to non-stop, shut away in my room.

Fortunately, I come from a remarkably musical family. At family gatherings, the guitar often came out — my father strummed it while my mother sang along. It was on that guitar that I made my own first attempts, and by my teens I was taking practice quite seriously.

At 14, my parents enrolled me in the Rocksuli in Debrecen, where I was immediately placed in a band environment and got to know drummers up close. I liked what they were doing so much that before long I picked up a pair of drumsticks myself and continued my studies on both instruments in parallel.

Later, I delved into the technical details of drumming at the Kőbányai Zenei Stúdió, where I had the chance to learn from people such as Solti János and Németh Gábor. During this time I played in several bands in various roles, and also took part in studio work.

Currently, alongside teaching, I am also studying bass guitar at the Kőbányai, and I work as part of the technical crew for the Dzsúdló and Punnany Massif productions.

Of all musical styles, rock is probably the closest to me, but I truly love all kinds of music, from the oldest to the most modern. My goal is for you to get into closer interaction with music, and to learn to listen to it with a musician's ears.

I welcome everyone who wants to make music, learn, play and grow!

Pár éve ide járok már, és csak jó tapasztalataim vannak. Kiváló tanárok, remek humorérzékkel, végtelen türelemmel. Odafigyelnek a személyes fejlődésre.
A legjobb! 😉
Gergely Nagy
Jófej, türelmes és profi tanárok. Nagyon szerettem ide járni, nulláról kezdve meglepődtem, hogy mennyire gyorsan lehet haladni velük. Én Levihez jártam, mindenkinek ajanlom kezdőknek is, haladóknak is.

A legjobb!!!! A 8 éves kisfiam másfél éve jár a dobiskolába.

Got questions?

FAQ

From what age can kids take lessons with you?

The minimum age is 6, when we can start with playful, 30-minute sessions.

How long is a drum lesson?

For children under 8 it is 30 minutes; for kids over 8 and for adults it is 45 minutes by default, but you can also opt for our extended 60-minute lessons.

I don't have a drum kit — not even a pair of sticks — but I'm interested in drumming. Can I still sign up?

Of course! It's perfectly fine not to own a drum kit at first — all you'll need is a practice pad. We look forward to seeing you!

Do you teach one-on-one or in groups?

All of our lessons are one-on-one, because that way we can tailor the teaching much better to each student.

Is it possible to come just for the occasional lesson?

With our large number of students and a full schedule, we cannot rearrange the timetable every week, so we only offer fixed weekly lessons.
